Me with Wolverine, Storm and an out of place bunny.

Oogie provoked lots of comments, including: "What are you?" "Cute, a bunny! And you...?"
So, not the best reaction, but pretty good.
I guess this means I won't be posting anytime soon.

Finally. October 13th. The day we finished Oogie.
Okay... So, you won't be hearing much from this blog until October 31st, when I will put the blog post up that tells you how it went.

We Are So Close To Done

THIS IS THE SECRET.

The stapler.
Without it, we would never had done it so fast.
This is the Mask Maker using the stapler to piece together the costume.

This is me with my mask and near completed costume.

This is me showing how the arms we made look in their almost finished state.
This is the costume's current state.
I am holding up a picture of Oogie to show how the movie version's arms look.

The Mask is DONE

"You're jokin' , you're jokin', you CAN'T BE DONE ALREADY!!???"

Sorry Oogie, we are. The mask is now done.
We cut out the eyeholes, then, using hot glue, and little disks of burlap, we put the eyes back in, only this time they didn't have plaster.
We also stuck a soft cloth into the part where my face is, so that I wouldn't be uncomfortable.

So, this is how we made the mask, step by step:

• We covered my face in plaster gauze.

• We then bent aluminum foil to make the eyes and mouth.

• We stuck pins into the aluminum foil so that we could see how things would piece together.

• We then put plaster gauze over the foil, after taking the pins out.

• Then we hot glued the burlap onto the plaster, making sure things were smooth.

• We also had extra fabric on the burlap covering the mask to serve as a hood.

• It was a bit of a struggle to get the hood to fit, we had to use a stapler to get the shoulders to fit.

• We cut out eyeholes in the mask.

• Then we hot glued squares of burlap onto the empty eyeholes.

• We inked the mouth and and eyes black with a Sharpie.

We are now finishing the costume.

The Mask is ALMOST READY!

We pinch Oogie. "OW OW OW!!"

We hot-glue the burlap to the mask.

We lift up to burlap to see where to hot-glue next.

The Mask Maker burns his fingers pushing the hot-glue, plaster and burlap together. Ow.

"Where should I throw my torture party?"

"In my torture chamber! Of course! MWA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!!"

We cut out eyeholes.

"UUUUUHHHH!"

How to Make an Oogie Boogie Mask

This is me, With my hair back, ready for plaster gauze.

This is the Mask Maker (grown-up) putting on strips of wet plaster gauze.

OOH! Fishy Face says "Hello!"

We blow-dry Oogie.

The Mask Maker frames the face with aluminum foil.

The Mask Maker puts plaster gauze over the frame.

"Didn't I have to torture Jack, Sally and Santa today?"

"OH MY GOSH! I FORGOT! NOOOOOO!"

Oogie Boogie Costume Underway

My Oogie Boogie costume for halloween this year, (Only attempted by one other person), is going to be a challenge. We have all the kinks worked out for the tummy and the mask part, but the suit still needs large black thread, and there isn't too much time to make this. I figure it will take a week just to make the mask, but the suit, in the condition it is in now--?
That will have to wait.
